Allen Heights Veterinary Repeats as Josh Billings Runaground ChampiBerkshires.com Sports,

 LENOX, Mass. -- Hundreds of amateur athletes Sunday won the 46th Josh Billings Runaground Triathlon where, as the motto goes, "To finish is to win." The day's fastest finishers featured familiar names as the four-man team from Allen Heights Veterinary was the first across the finish line at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, which took over this year from Tanglewood as the triathlon terminus. As usual, teams headed out from downtown Great Barrington for a 27-mile bike ride to the boat launch at the Stockbridge Bowl, where pedalers gave way to paddlers for a 5-mile spring around the lake. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional School District will broaden its diversity efforts to the larger community with an Oct. 28 presentation by nationally known author and speaker. Simran Jeet Singh, the executive director of the Aspen Institute's Religion and Society Program, will be in town for two days to work with the district's elementary school and middle-high school students around the issues of bias and empathy. On Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., he will share some of the same thoughts with a wider audience.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — After discussion over four meetings, the Zoning Board of Appeals approved an application to operate a chemical dependency rehabilitation facility in the former Sweet Brook nursing home on Cold Spring Road. It was unanimously approved on Thursday with conditions related to fencing and landscaping.
"We've been revisiting this now [for] several months, we've asked the petitioner to work with with the abutter, they've done so and they've come back with a proposal that appears to make both parties happy," Chair Andrew Hoar said.

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williamstown Community Chest will hold its 14th Fun Run on Saturday. This community event consists of two races, a 5K run and a 1-mile kids’ run/family walk. The Fun Run races are open to everyone, veteran or first-time runners and daily or occasional walkers. Families with pets and strollers are also welcome to participate. Both race events begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Williamstown Youth Center, 66 School St. Sign-in and registration begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the race. Property tax is a regressive tax but it doesn't have to be.
While in most communities each property owner pays the same tax rate per $1,000 of home value, the impact on your pocketbook varies based on your income level. Those in the bottom income quintile pay 5.4 percent of their income on municipal tax while the top quintile pays less than 3 percent, and the top 1 percent of earners pay only 1.6 percent of their household income, according to the Institute of Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP).
In essence, the less you have, the more of your income you are expected to pay.
