Williamstown Residents Urged to Attend Planning Sessions

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Residents are being encouraged to attend at least one of two community meetings next month to provide input into the town's comprehensive plan.   Representatives from the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee attended the Select Board's meeting on Monday to both announce the release of the committee's "existing conditions" report and promote the open house it plans for Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Williamstown Youth Center.   The Thursday event will be held in two sessions, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., and is designed to collect thoughts from the public about the many elements that go into what formerly was known as the town's master

MCLA Volleyball Team Wins at Mass Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- The MCLA volleyball team cruised to a four-set MASCAC victory over Mass Maritime Saturday afternoon 25-9, 25-17, 21-25, 25-13.   Tied at 4-all early in the 1st set, MCLA (7-3, 2-0) used a dominating 20-3 run to separate themselves and jump out to a 1-0 set advantage. Up 8-6 in the second, the Trailblazers used a more modest 8-2 run to pull away at 16-8. That eight-point cushion would prove to be the difference as MCLA would take the set 25-17.   Though down 20-14 in the third set, after reeling off six straight points it looked like the Trailblazers were poised to close out the match. Williamstown's DIRE Committee Questions Need for New Purpose

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town's diversity committee Monday talked about plans for conversations it wants to hold over the next few months while members pushed back against a suggestion that the body "conclude or pause" its work in order to focus on a yearlong effort to create a strategic plan.   The Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity Committee has been engaged with the Select Board throughout the summer in a discussion of the purpose and direction for the advisory panel the Select Board created two years ago.   That discussion has not always gone smoothly.   Earlier this month, the Select Board agreed on a draft outline for the purpose and process

Successful Reunion for Mount Greylock's First Graduates

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — More than two dozen alumni from Mount Greylock Regional School attended the class of 1962's 60th reunion this month.   "We toured the 'new' high school, amazing place," organizer Caroline Martel said. "Much bigger than we had. And an outside classroom, I loved that idea. The science labs were awesome."   Former Mount Greylock Principal Mary MacDonald, who helped drive the effort to do a major renovation and addition project at the middle-high school and now teaches English there, conducted a tour for the reunion attendees.   Martel said 26 people attended the reunion, the first since the renovated school opened for

Fall Seniors Golf Tour Tees Off at Berkshire Hills

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Ralph Distoli and Bob Linn had the low gross score at Berkshire Hills Country Club in the inaugural Berkshire County Fall Seniors Golf event.   The pair carded a 62 on their home course to edge runners-up Matt Ortega and George Candelet, who finished at 65.   The event on Wednesday was the first of a five-week series for golfers 50 and up to raise funds to support Berkshire County Junior Golf. Lee's Fraser Leads Team to Williams Invitational Win

LENOX, Mass. -- Hundreds of amateur athletes Sunday won the 46th Josh Billings Runaground Triathlon where, as the motto goes, "To finish is to win."   The day's fastest finishers featured familiar names as the four-man team from Allen Heights Veterinary was the first across the finish line at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac, which took over this year from Tanglewood as the triathlon terminus.   As usual, teams headed out from downtown Great Barrington for a 27-mile bike ride to the boat launch at the Stockbridge Bowl, where pedalers gave way to paddlers for a 5-mile spring around the lake. Mount Greylock Schools Invite Community to 'Talking to Kids About Racism'
