 BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) and the Community College of Vermont (CCV) launched their Early Childhood Education (ECE) Residency Program with a ceremony attended by the 18 matriculating students, each organization's staff, and representatives from Vermont's Federal Legislative Delegation. The ECE Residency program incentivizes early childhood education students in either CCV's early childhood education associate degree or childcare certificate program by paying them to increase their course load and graduate sooner. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Planning Board last week voted to send five zoning bylaw amendments to the Select Board for inclusion on May's annual town meeting warrant. But residents have at least three more chances to weigh in on the proposals before that warrant is sealed in mid April. The first chance will come on March 13, when the Planning Board chair and co-chair plan to attend a meeting of the Select Board to explain the proposed warrant articles. The planners then have scheduled an informal "information session" to receive comment from residents on March 14. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A group of volunteers working on an assessment of how safe residents feel in their community told the Select Board on Monday that they hope to have a report finalized by June 30. Social workers Abigail Reifsnyder and Kerri Nicoll appeared before the board to give it an update on the Community Assessment and Research, or CARES, project that launched in 2021 with the hope of an 18-month turnaround. That timetable was thrown off when the director hired by the town to conduct the study left midway through the project, Reifsnyder said. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The proposed fire station is getting slimmer by 5,000 square feet. The Building Committee on Wednesday was informed that progress had been made in reducing the size of the 27,218 structure to also reduce the cost. "We met with firefighters last week in identifying some square footage that could be removed from the building in order to get us down to our revised budget of $22.5 [million]," said Bruce Decoteau, a former Williams College project manager consulting for the committee.
