WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Two members of the Select Board on Wednesday urged the Fire District's Building Committee to use the next month to find cost savings in an estimated $25 million building project. Committee members responded by repeating that the district is committed to delivering the town the fire station it needs for the lowest possible cost and said the "value engineering" process would continue even after a planned Feb. 28 bond authorization vote if residents approve the project. ADAMS, Mass. — Adams Community Bank (ACB) ended 2022 with a donation of $75,000 to local food pantries, food banks, and fuel assistance programs. ACB's Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Engagement Maureen Baran presented donations to several Berkshire County nonprofits. Adams Community Bank began its December donation efforts by presenting BCAC's Fuel Assistance program with a $50,000 donation. This program is part of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a federally funded program to help low-income households with their energy costs. LEE, Mass. — Lee Bank Foundation has awarded $45,670 to ten Berkshire area organizations for their fourth-round of 2022 community funding. Recipients were awarded grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to support their local programming. Included in the awards are a series of Arts Access Grants for arts and culture organizations to expand access to programming for underserved audiences. The National Weather Service has declared a winter weather advisory for Berkshire County beginning Thursday, Jan. 19, from 11 am to Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 pm. Accuweather predicts that snow should begin around 5 pm on Thursday, and it will continue throughout the day Saturday. Snow is predicted to continue through the weekend into Monday, Jan. 23. Expect mixed precipitation with a total snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches. Ice accumulation could be up to an inch. Plan for slippery roads and hazardous conditions. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 1Berkshire, thanks to a one-time grant award, announced that they are accepting applications for a second year of the Best Foot Forward Facade Improvement Micro-Grant program. In 2022, this program provided 31 small businesses and organizations across the Berkshires with facade improvement grants of up to $1,000, helping not only to improve individual storefronts, but to improve the aesthetics of our downtown commercial districts in the region. In 2023, this program returns and is expanded.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation has finalized a purchase and sales agreement for a 10-acre parcel on Oblong Road. "We put some money down [Tuesday], and we will put a bigger deposit down on Friday," WRLF President Greg Islan said on Wednesday afternoon. "Basically, it's a done deal. Both sides have signed the purchase and sales agreement." WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The real estate auction of a closed Main Street hotel again was postponed late Tuesday, fewer than 24 hours before the scheduled sale. The 49-room Orchards Hotel has been closed since March 2020 and did not reopen for business after the economy restarted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Boston's Daniel P. McLaughlin and Co. Auctioneers has advertised public auctions several times starting in the summer of 2021. The most recent, for Wednesday at 10 a.m., still was on the auctioneers' website at midday Tuesday. I am disappointed that I have to write yet again to address the many faulty conclusions and misleading figures published on your website regarding the Williamstown Youth Center's funding request to the town. To publish one such letter, along with a response, seems to me a reasonable presentation of differing opinions for your readers to sort out. To publish a second does not encourage not public debate about an important issue but simply kickstarts a useless back and forth that can only cause bad feelings and muddy the discussion of a pretty simple request.

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee will meet later this month to consider six requests that, combined, seek more funds than the town will have available under the Community Preservation program in fiscal year 2024. Those six applications add up to $515,000 in funding requests.
