'Suspicious' Blaze Destroys Storage Building at Old Brodie Ski ResortStaff Reports,

Fire Chief Frank Speth III says the state fire marshal was called to investigate the blaze. NEW ASHFORD, Mass. — A two-story storage building at the old Brodie Mountain Ski Resort burned to the ground on Wednesday morning. "There was some equipment in there. I don't know what equipment was in that building, but there is no power. There is no gas going into the building," said Fire Chief Frank Speth III. "So it is suspicious at this time and the state fire marshal is on scene. And there will be a full investigation."  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — An overwhelming number of voters at a well attended special fire district meeting Tuesday approved a $22.5 million project to build a new fire station on Main Street. By a vote of 509-32, attendees of the meeting at Williamstown Elementary School gave the district permission to borrow up to that amount to replace the aging, cramped facility on Water Street.  To the Editor:
As a high-schooler in central Mass., I occasionally helped our Volunteer Fire Dept. put out grass fires caused by the railroad, so I have some understanding of what these outstanding people do for us in Williamstown. And I’m confident everyone in town appreciates and values the work of our Volunteer Fire Department.
However, the current proposal to build a $23 million firehouse here in town is another story. The problem is with both the project’s scope and timing.
Let’s first look at the timing. The economy is roaring. Unemployment is down. Inflation is up (look at the price of eggs!). Interest rates are higher than they’ve been in a decade or more

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Residents on Tuesday will decide whether to authorize up to $22.5 million to build a new fire station on Main Street. The Williamstown Fire District will hold a special district meeting at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at Williamstown Elementary School with a single question on the warrant: whether voters in the district, which covers the entire town, will authorize the necessary borrowing to build a station at 580 Main St. (Route 2), on property the district acquired with authorization from a special district meeting in 2017.
