WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School District is looking for a way to address the use of "bias-based" language in the schools. "There is some use of language, particularly in the middle/high school, and it's every middle/high school in America, there is the use of language that every student in the building is old enough to know not to use," Superintendent Jason McCandless told the School Committee on Thursday night. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The deadline for voter registration for the annual town election and annual town meeting is Friday, April 28 This deadline applies to new voters only. If you are already registered to vote, you do not have to register again. The town clerk's office will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked no later than April 28. Voter registration forms may also be returned via the drop box outside the front door at town mall or returned in person. The drop box will be checked at 5 p.m. for any incoming registration forms. On Wednesday morning, stones fill in the hole left by erosion on the road. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town and Williams College are working to repair a damaged brook bank that led to erosion issues on the access road to the transfer station. Town Manager Robert Menicocci said Wednesday that the town reached out to both abutters of the town-owned property, the college and CSX Corp., owner of the nearby railroad. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Finance Committee last week advanced a fiscal year 2024 budget that carries a projected 1.3 percent increase in the property tax levy townwide. The Fin Comm went into its final weekly meeting of the FY24 budget cycle with one major decision point on its plate: whether to endorse a budget that included $100,000 in spending to bolster the town's stabilization account and an additional $150,000 toward capital projects. The potential tradeoff of pulling that $250,000 out of the spending plan was that, without it, the town would have needed to raise $20.1 million in FY24 through taxation.
