How Walk with Me Works

Reporting Your Steps

Let your pedometer count your steps Monday - Sunday, then report the number of steps you walked that week to your team captain. The Team Captains are responsible for reporting each team member's individual weekly statistics through the website. The Team Captain will Log In to their account and click on the "Enter Steps" link. The team captain will then enter each team member's steps.

Wear Your Pedometer All Day

Put your pedometer on when you get up in the morning and take it off when you go to bed. (It looks like a pager.) Pedometers clip onto your clothing on the front of your hip (this placement is important, as the pedometer will not work properly unless placed on the front of the hip). They measure many activities, in addition to walked steps. Steps will be registered when you:

  • Walk (anywhere, including a treadmill)
  • Run
  • Ride bikes (stationary or bicycle)
  • Rollerblade
  • Cross Country Ski
  • Dance
  • Shake the pedometer (don’t shake it)

Pedometer Predicaments

Blue Cross Blue Shield generously donated 1,500 pedometers to Walk with Me in the Berkshires. Unfortunately we, therefore, do not have any replacements. Try not to drop your pedometer. It most likely will not work if it has been dropped. If you feel your pedometer is not working properly, consider the following ideas:

  • Change pedometer placement on waistband
  • Let pedometer dry
  • Use duct tape to reassemble broken pedometer and/or make new clip
  • Replace battery
  • Buy new pedometer

Report your numbers of steps weekly: Reporting must be done by Tuesday night at midnight in order for your steps to be recorded for the previous week. If you report steps after the deadline, they will not be recorded.

  • Wear your pedometer all day, all week.
  • Record your number of steps each day.
  • Each week be sure your team captain reports your steps through the on-line system.
  • Your name and number of steps will be published on the Berkshire Health Systems and Iberkshires each week.
