Williams Women's Soccer Edges Amherst

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Alison Lu scored in the 70th minute to break a 1-1 tie and send the Williams College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Amherst on Saturday afternoon.
 
Mikayla Kappes scored in the first half to give Ephs a lead, but the 24th-ranked Mammoths responded midway through the second half.
 
Whitney Lincoln had four saves for Williams (4-2-1, 3-2 NESCAC), which hosts Connecticut College on Sunday at noon on Cole Field.
 
Men's Soccer
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Ignacio Cubeddu scored midway through the first half for the only goal Amherst needed in a 2-0 win over Williams.
 
Michael Davis made three saves for the Ephs (3-3-1, 2-2), who host Conn College on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
Field Hockey
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Emma Ticknor had a goal and an assist, and Williams jumped out to a four-goal lead in a 4-1 win over Amherst.
 
Abby Lloyd needed to make one save to earn the win in goal for the Ephs (6-1, 3-1), who host Conn College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Football
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Three Williams rushers went for 100 yards in a 41-10 win over Bowdoin.
 
Quarterback Bobby Maimaron led the attack with 127 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. He also threw for 91 yards and a touchdown.
 
Williams (2-1) goes to Colby on Saturday.
 
Men's Cross Country
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Aidan Ryan finished first in the 8-kilometer race for Williams at the Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock Regional School.
 
Ryan finished in 26 minutes, 7.3 seconds, 24 seconds ahead of RPI's Jacob Davis.
 
Williams won the 8K team competition with 31 points, 25 points ahead of runner-up MIT.
 
In the 5K, Williams took the top three spots, led by William Spollen (17:07), and the Ephs easily outpaced runner-up NYU with 17 points to the Violets' 52.
 
Women's Cross Country
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Alexandra Bettez led a sweep of the top four places for Williams in the 5-kilometer race at the Purple Valley Classic.
 
Bettez covered the course at Mount Greylock Regional School in 20 minutes, 13.9 seconds, leading the Ephs to a dominating win in the team 5K stnadings. Williams earned 16 points, well ahead of runner-up Tufts.
 
In the 6K, Tufts' Sabrina Gornisciwicz won in 22:44.2 to lead the Jumbos to a first-place team finish.
 
Tufts finished with 60 points to edge the runner-up Ephs, who had 68 points behind a third-place showing by Eva Borton (23:03.0).
