Berkshire All-Stars Cal Ripken Team Reaches 12U State Semi-Final

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Berkshire Cal Ripken 12-and-under All-Stars this weekend went 3-1 in advancing to Monday evening's semi-final of the Western Massachusetts State Tournament.
 
The Berkshire team started its tournament with a 9-0 win over Frontier behind a combined two-hitter from pitchers Jake Duquette and Ben Kelly.
 
Duquette struck out a pair and allowed two hits in three innings before handing the ball to Kelly, who also struck out two.
 
Griffin McElroy went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBIs, and Caleb Petruzella was 2-for-3 with a double and RBIs in the win.
 
Roshan Warriar doubled, and Kelly went 2-for-3 in a nine-hit Berkshire attack.
 
Berkshire finished Saturday with a 9-6 win over Nipmuc, holding off a late comeback to secure the win.
 
Warriar went 4-for-4 with a double, and Duquette was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Dominic Velasco drove in three runs as Berkshire jumped out to a 9-2 lead midway through the fifth inning.
 
But Nipmuc scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to make it interesting. 
 
Sunday morning got off to a rough start when Ash West handed Berkshire a 13-0 loss.
 
But Berkshire bounced back with a 9-3 win over Nashoba Sunday afternoon.
 
Kelly doubled and was one of four players with a two-hit game. Also getting a pair of singles were Duquette, Velasco and Ryan Johansen.
 
Duquette earend the win on the mound with five innings of work. 
 
Berkshire takes on host Marlborough on Monday evening in the semi-finals.
