HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Williams College women's golf team had an up and down Wednesday during the second round of the four-round NCAA Tournament and the Ephs are now in second place, five shots behind the leaders from Claremont Mudd Scripps.
CMS shot 317 today, Williams shot 322, and NYU moved into third place behind Williams by also shooting a 317 today. NYU trails Williams by five shots and Carnegie Mellon's 318 today moved them into fourth place, 11 shots off the lead and six behind the Ephs.
The Ephs and CMS were paired with their first round partners from Whitman College again today when they went off the first tee in the afternoon.
On the front nine senior Phoebe Mattana turned in an even par round of 36 and first year Holly Davenport came in at two over. Junior Cori Chan struggled on the front nine and made the turn at six over. Senior Liz Gudas got off to a slow start and made the turn at 8 over, while junior Isabelle Wang was nine over.
At the turn CMA owned a five-shot lead on the Ephs that they were able to maintain that lead through 18th hole.
On the back nine Liz Gudas shot 5 shots better than on the front and Cori Chan was four shots better than her first nine.
Mattana was even par after 12 holes and finished at three over with a 76 to lead Williams. Davenport struggled late and was six over on the back and eight over for the day shooting 81 as did Chan. Gudas' three over on the back nine left her with an 84 and Isabella Wang ended up 16 over par at 89.
On Thursday, the Ephs will go off the first tee again starting at 1:20 p.m. and again they will be paired up with CMS, but NYU will now be in the group for round three.
