BOSTON — Lisa Blackmer has earned the endorsement of the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus' Political Action Committee for state representative.

The North Adams city councilor is running in the special election for the 1st Berkshire district, which includes the communities of Adams, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Florida, Hancock, Lanesborough, New Ashford,  Williamstown and city of North Adams.

The primary election will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and the general election to follow on Tuesday, Nov. 7, to fill the unexpired term of the late state Rep. Gailanne Cariddi, the first woman to hold the seat.

"MWPC is proud to endorse Lisa for the House of Representatives in this important special election," said  Linnea Walsh, interim MWPC executive director. "A longtime resident of North Adams, she brings demonstrated leadership as a North Adams city councilor. Lisa is deeply committed to advocating for the issues affecting the area's residents, and making sure that their voices are heard on Beacon Hill."

Running on a platform to help families live, work and prosper in North County -- the northwestern most district in the commonwealth. Blackmer has served on the North Adams City Council for 10 years, two of which she served as City Council president. A member of the Massachusetts Municipal Association board, she has worked locally to strengthen zonng and in support of veterans' benefits.

With a surge of new members in 2017, and more women seeking its endorsement, the MWPC PAC is on track to endorsing a record 37 candidates to date who are running in municipal races and special elections this year. The groundswell of support comes as MWPC PAC endorsed candidates are running in competitive races at the municipal level, including School Committee, Board of Selectmen, City Council and mayor in Beverly, Boston, Cambridge, Everett, Framingham, Melrose, Newton, Pittsfield, Springfield and other communities.

MWPC PAC endorsements have yielded recent successes, including the win by Cindy Friedman in the special election for State Senate, 4th Middlesex District in July.
