Cages 14U Travel Baseball Team Has Busy Weekend

The Cages 14-and-under travel baseball team dropped three games on Saturday, losing to Island Trees, 10-3, at the Duquette Sports Complex and then traveling to New York, where the Cages team was swept in a double-header against the Halfmoon Mariners.
 
The first game in New York went to Halfmoon, 4-2. In the nightcap, the Mariners beat the Cages, 10-0.
 
Halfmoon opened up a 4-0 lead with a three-run fifth inning in the first game before the Cages battled back with a run in the sixth and one more in the seventh.
 
Panayiotis Constantopoulos went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Charlie Gratton doubled and scored a run for Cages.
 
Paul Roeder did not allow an earned run in six innings of work on the mound in the 4-2 loss. He struck out 1 and scattered six hits in taking the loss.
 
On Sunday, the Cages split a pair of games, falling again to Island Trees, 7-0, in a game that ended after five innings, and beating Tewksbury, Mass., 5-1.
 
Alex Axt and Jack Cangelosi combined to allow four hits and one earned run over seven innings. Axt struck out four in five innings of work.
 
Landen Jamula went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Paul Roeder doubled in the win, the team's first this season.
 
The Cages continues its season next weekend at the New York Storm Showcase in Schalmont, N.Y.
