Drury High graduate and Springfield College senior Danielle Racette returns to North Adams on Saturday afternoon to face MCLA.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Saturday’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will feature opportunities for the area’s youngest athletes and showcase the talents of some of Berkshire County’s top women collegians.

The daylong festival that begins at 8 a.m. in MCLA’s Amsler Campus Center concludes with a 1 p.m. women’s basketball game featuring the Trailblazers and the Springfield Pride.

The Pride features 2013 Drury High graduate Danielle Racette, who is averaging 3.3 assists in 21.4 minutes per game this winter. Springfield (11-4) is gunning for its eighth NEWMAC championship and first since Racette’s freshman year.

MCLA’s women are led by Pittsfield High graduate Courtney McLaughlin, who averages 12.7 points per game. Drury alumna Emily Moulton is averaging 6.3 points per game, while Hoosac Valley grad Mckenzie Robinson averages 3.1 points and 1.3 assists in 18 minutes per night.

Before watching those local heroes, the next generation of heroes in training will participate in clinics in basketball, soccer and tennis and enjoy lunch courtesy of the college. After watching the Division III women’s basketball game, participants are invited to an autograph session with the MCLA women at about 2:45.

Day of the event registration is possible, but parents are encouraged to contact MCLA Athletic Director Dot Houston in advance at 413-662-5437 or d.houston@mcla.edu.
