PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Andrea Harrington, a small-business owner and local attorney running in the Democratic primary for state Senate, has been endorsed by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-MA) and SEIU Local 509. These two organizations represent thousands of social workers, human service workers, and educators throughout Western Massachusetts.

The state Senate seat for the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin & Hampden District soon to be vacated by Sen. Benjamin B. Downing, D-Pittsfield.

"I am incredibly honored to have thousands of social workers, human-service workers, and educators supporting my campaign for state Senate. These hard-working men and women understand what is a stake as we confront the opioid epidemic devastating our region, ensure that those suffering from mental illness get the comprehensive services they need, provide quality services for our seniors, and invest in early childhood education. I believe that our communities and our region are stronger if we invest in people and comprehensive human services," Harrington said.

Harrington's campaign has been gaining momentum with the recent endorsements of the Berkshire Building & Construction Trades Council, Pittsfield Carpenters Local 108, the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers & Scientists, SEIU Local 888, and the Mass Women's Political Caucus. She will be announcing other prominent Berkshires supporters in the coming weeks.

Harrington grew up in Richmond where she currently lives with her husband, Tim, and their two young sons. Harrington is an attorney and owns a small business in West Stockbridge. She has been actively involved in the region, serving as a member her local Affordable Housing Committee, School Council, and as an advisory board member of the regional non-profit, BerkShares, Inc. Harrington is a graduate of Taconic High School in Pittsfield, the University of Washington, and American University's Washington College of Law.
