WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Bring out your lawn signs.

The Village Beautiful will see four contested races in the May 10 town election, with multiple candidates running for seats on the Board of Selectmen, Williamstown Elementary School Committee and Planning Board.

Current Selectmen Chairwoman Jane Patton is standing for re-election for a three-year term, while Selectman Ronald Turbin, who was first elected in 2007, has chosen not to try for another three years. Two challengers have emerged for the two available seats: Cynthia D. Payne of Main Street and Jeffrey D. Thomas of Gale Road.

The top two will win terms on the board.

For a three-year term on the School Committee, there are two seats being contested.

Current Chairman Dan Caplinger is running again, but the seat currently held by Richard Reynolds is being vacated.

Five candidates are on the ballot for the three spots: Caplinger, Joseph C. Bergeron of Main Street, Liam J. Brody of Adams Road, Maury McCarthy Lawson of North Hoosac Road and Sanjay Sharma of Longview Terrace.

A two-year seat and a five-year seat are available on the Planning Board. And six candidates are in the running.

The two-year seat is currently being filled by Sarah S. Gardner, who was appointed on an interim basis when Carol Stein-Payne stepped down late last year.

But Gardner is running not for that position but for a full five-year term, where she will face competition from Lindsay R. Errichetto of Henderson Road and Susan Puddester of Chestnut Street.

The remaining two years left on the Stein-Payne term drew three candidates: Anne W. Hogeland of Cold Spring Road, Christopher J. Kapiloff of Luce Road and Bruce MacDonald of Hancock Road.

Errichetto, Kapiloff and MacDonald all applied for the interim appointment given to Gardner in November.

The other positions on the ballot, though uncontested, each have one candidate in the running.

Although the candidates currently in contention have been certified, they have until April 7 to withdraw their names from the ballot, Town Clerk Mary Kennedy said.
