Williams Men's Basketball Loses at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Trinity senior guard Jaquan Starks drove the lane and banked in a floater with 9.0 seconds remaining to give the Bantams (9-4) a 76-75 win over the Williams Ephs (8-5) on Sunday.
 
In a wild, exciting game, Trinity was able to make one more big play than the Ephs down the stretch. With the loss, the Ephs are now 0-2 in NESCAC competition.
 
Ed Ogudenko led the Bantams with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Shay Ajayi also contributed 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals.
 
Kyle Scadlock led the Ephs with 20 points while Bobby Casey contributed 17 off the bench.
 
Williams next plays on Tuesday at home against Johnson State at 7 p.m.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
 
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- A fourth quarter surge powered the Williams College women’s basketball team to a 73-58 victory over the Trinity College Bantams Sunday in Chandler Gymnasium.
 
Williams (11-2/ 1-1 NESCAC) put together an excellent bounce back performance coming off a 80-44 loss to Amherst College on Friday night. The Ephs were sharp on both ends of the floor throughout the game, finding easy baskets on one end while forcing the Bantams into turnovers and bad shots on the other. Trinity (9-2/ 0-1 NESCAC) fell in their first conference game of the year despite another huge performance from senior captain MacKenzie Griffin, the Bantams’ leading scorer, who averages over 20 points per game.
 
Griffin finished with 26 points.
 
Amanni Fernandez scored 24, and Devon Caveney scored 19 to lead Williams.
 
Williams travels to Maine to face Colby and Bowdoin next weekend.

MEN'S HOCKEY

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Greg Zaffino scored with 2 minutes, 40 seconds left in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and send the Williams men's hockey team to a 3-1 win over Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at Lansing Chapman Rink.

 
Alex Hagerty scored the tying goal in the second for the Ephs (8-3-1, 6-1-1 NESCAC), who got an empty-net goal from Colby Cretella.
 
Michael Pinios made 25 saves in the win.
 
Williams travels to Manhattanville on Friday.
