CASTLETON, Vt. --The Williams College men's basketball team rode a 47-point first half and exceptional 3-point shooting (13-25) to defeat the Castleton State Spartans (4-7), 81-55, on Sunday.

Sophomore guard Cole Teal scored 21 points for the Ephs, all of them coming from behind the arc.

Williams (8-3) began the game on a 16-3 run and never looked back, as they took a 47-27 lead into halftime. The Ephs outrebounded the Spartans 19-8 in the first half.

Castleton showed some fight early in the second half and cut the Ephs' lead to 52-38 with 15:56 remaining in the game on a three-pointer by Ryan Merget. Williams would respond with a 13-0 run that would effectively seal the win.

The Ephs' balanced scoring attack proved to be too much for Castleton. 11 different players scored points for Williams. Freshman swingman Kyle Scadlock was the only Eph player besides Teal to score double-digit points. He finished with 11. Senior center Edward Flynn pulled down 11 rebounds.

Rob Coloutti led the Spartans with 20 points.

Williams next plays at Amherst on Friday night.

MEN'S HOCKEY
OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Williams College men's ice hockey team (6-3-1) got back in the win column Sunday, capturing the consolation game of the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Classic, 7-1, over Castleton State

Williams (6-3-1), ranked 13th in the latest USCHO.com poll, was defeated by 4th-ranked Adrian College in Saturday's first round tourney contest 4-1, but the Ephs brought their offense Sunday, scoring the first six goals of the game.

Junior forward Tyler Young powered the Eph offensive outburst by notching a hat trick and recording two assists on the day. Two of Young's tallies came in the opening 20 minutes when he scored the first and third goals for the Ephs.

Eph first year netminder Michael Pinios collected his fourth win of the year against one loss by turning aside 23 of 24 shots by Castleton (1-11-1).

The Ephs will next be in action this weekend when they host Trinity on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Wesleyan on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
