WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass – The Williams College wrestling team opened the dual match portion of its season with a 53-0 win over Trinity (0-2) in historic Lasell Gym.
The Ephs entered their first dual match of the year off a fourth-place finish at the York (Pa.) College Invitational where Jake Savoca (149), Jorge Lopez (157), and Chris Chorzepa (184) each won titles. Lopez was named the most outstanding wrestler at the invitational. All three of the Ephs are ranked nationally with Lopez No. 1 at 157, Chorzepa No. 2 at 184 and Savoca No. 8 at 149.
Williams recorded seven pins on the night.
Williams senior Dan Seidita at 133 battled back from a 4-2 deficit heading into the third round to claim a 5-4 win over Joe Penna with a late takedown in the closest match of the evening.
The Ephs will return to action in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where they will compete in the two-day Citrus Invitational Dec. 29 and 30.
MEN'S HOCKEY
AMHERST, Mass. -- The Williams College men's hockey team (5-1-1, 4-0-1 NESCAC) tied the Amherst Jeffs, (3-1-3, 2-0-2 NESCAC) 2-2, Friday at the Orr Hockey Rink.
Williams freshman Roberto Cellini had two points on the game, assisting sophomores C.J. Shugart and Colby Cretella. Amherst (3-1-3, 2-0-2 NESCAC) got goals from Jack Fitzgerald and Thomas Lindstrom.
Noah Klag made 23 saves for Williams (5-1-1, 4-0-1).
Williams travels to Hamilton on Saturday.
