Majumder Scores Twice, Tufts Tops Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Williamstown resident and Mount Greylock Regional School graduate Nathan Majumder scored two goals to lead the Tufts men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Williams College on Saturday at Cole Field.
 
Majumder is second in the NESCAC with nine goals this season.
 
The win helped head coach Josh Shapiro's Jumbos guarantee a home match in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championship which starts next Saturday. 
 
Williams (7-5-2) finishes its regular season on Wednesday at Middlebury.
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kristina Alvarado and Evan Gancedo scored to lead Williams to a 2-0 win over Tufts on Saturday at Cole Field.
 
Tressa Palcheck made six saves for Williams (13-0-1, 9-0-0 NESCAC), which travels to Middlebury on Tuesday.
 
FOOTBALL
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— Tufts gained 435 yards of total offense en route to a 30-15 win over Williams on Saturday.
 
Tufts was very efficient moving the ball on the ground. The Jumbos racked up 250 yards rushing on the day. Alex Snyder threw for 185 yards and a touchdown.
 
Williams QB ustin Lommen went 33-for-53, a school record for completions in one game, and finished the day with 363 yards and two touchdowns. Darrias Sime notched 135 receiving yards and a touchdown.
 
However, the Tufts defense was strong in their rush defense, only allowing the Ephs to gain 35 yards on the ground.
 
Senior Elijah Eaton led the Ephs defense with 10 tackles.
 
Williams (2-3) takes on Hamilton at home next Saturday.
 
The Jumbos (4-1) will face Amherst at home next week.
 
FIELD HOCKEY
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Tufts field hockey erased a 1-0 Williams lead and went on to a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday.
 
Hannah Goodrick scored for the Ephs (10-4, 6-3 NESCAC), who got 12 saves from Margaret Draper.
 
Williams finishes the regular season at Middlebury on Wednesday.
 
VOLLEYBALL
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Williams suffered two losses in non-conference play against Wellesley (13-12) in five sets (26-28, 24-26, 25-17, 25-16, 11-15) and MIT (26-2) in five sets (22-25, 21-25, 28-26, 26-24, 12-15).
 
Williams fell to 14-9 on the season.
 
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williams Ephs hosted the annual Plansky Invitational on Saturday at Mount Greylock Regional School. In addition to teams from Clark University, Southern Vermont College, and SUNY Delhi, a number of Williams alumni also competed.
 
In the men’s 5k race, Williams alum Colin Cotton was victorious in 15 minutes, 16 seconds. The top five collegiate finishers were John Hillenbrand (16:13, 3rd overall) and Kobie Lane (16:15, 4th overall) of SUNY Delhi, Justin Ferguson (16:31, 6th overall) and Marc Brandmeyer (16:38, 7th overall) of Southern Vermont, and Williams’ Austin Anderson (16:48, 10th overall).
 
SUNY Delhi was the top team as well with 33 points. Williams placed second with 41 points and Southern Vermont was third with a score of 73. Clark took fourth with 88 points.
