WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kristi Kirshe scored in the 99th minute to give the Williams College women's soccer team a 3-2, come-from-behind win over Vermont's Castleton State on Sunday.

“Castleton did an unbelievable job," Williams coach Michelyne Pinard said. "Their ability to stay organized and their ability to counter were spectacular, so kudos to them.

“We are a young team, so I wasn’t sure how we were going to respond when we went down 2-0.”

Just more than a minute after Castleton's second goal, Kirshe set up Audrey Thomas for Williams' first goal.

In the 87th minute, Gabby Suarez tied the game on a header.

Williams (3-0) travels to Maine next weekend to face Colby and Bowdoin.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The second and final day of the Lindsay Morehouse Invitational took place on Sunday.

Pushed inside due to weather, teams from Middlebury, Skidmore, Vassar, and Wesleyan squared off in one round of singles and one round of doubles. Though this marks the end of the tournament, no overall winner will be named. Instead, the tournament is meant to usher in a new season and allow teams to compete with their entire rosters.

The invitational is named in honor of former Eph tennis captain Lindsay Morehouse Class of 2000, who was one of three Williams alumni who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Morehouse was a teammate of current Eph head coach Alison Swain.

MEN'S GOLF
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -— The Williams Fall Invitational concluded Sunday unscathed by ominous weather forecasts.

The Ephs hosted the annual fall invite at the par-71 Taconic Golf Course. Despite avoiding thunderstorms, players were forced to contend with daunting winds all morning.

Trinity College (301-300=601) began the day three shots back but ended victorious. Will Rosenfield (73-70=143), who took home individual medalist honors, anchored the Bantams with a superb final round of one under par.

Williams College (309-296=605) mounted an impressive comeback, firing a tournament-low team score of 296 in Sunday’s final round. Ross Hoffman (72-74=146) led the Ephs for the weekend with a top five finish, while senior Michael Stone (75-73=148) spearheaded the team’s second day charge.

Western New England finished third at 612.

Williams will not host another tournament until the NESCAC Championships. Next weekend, tournament competition will take place at Middlebury College for the Panthers’ annual fall event, the Duke Nelson Invitational.
