WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — About two dozen people gathered on Main Street on Sunday evening for a vigil to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

The crowd gathered in front of First Congregational Church with signs bearing the name of Brown and other recent victims of alleged police brutality and the slogan "Black Lives Matter."

Several motorists slowed and tooted their car horns in apparent support of the group, one of many around the country marking Sunday's anniversary.

"For those of us who are white, the events in Ferguson made us aware, like few events theretofore, of the grotesque inequality with which our fellow citizens of color are treated by the police and the justice system in the United States, even now in the 21st century," the Williamstown vigil's organizers wrote in a news release.
