Lanesborough Bulldogs Bow Out of Cal Ripken Regional04:54PM / Sunday, August 02, 2015 | |
WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- Newtown, Conn., scored three times in the third inning on the way to a 5-1 win over the Lanesborough Bulldogs 11-and-under Cal Ripken All-Stars at the New England Regional on Sunday.
The loss was Lanesborough's second in the double-elimination tournament, ending the Bulldogs' run.
"It was a great season," Lanesborough coach Rick Paris said. "These kids really played their hearts out. Baseball just sometimes breaks your heart. We just didn't get the timely hit. We had a runner in scoring position a few times but just hit the ball hard right at them. That's baseball.
"I'm just very proud of how these kids play the game and how they carry themselves throughout. They were all very dedicated throughout with practices basically every day.
'Unfortunately Someone has to lose and today it was us, but we are looking forward to next year."
Landen Jamula and Panayoitis Constantopoulos each doubled for the Bulldogs, who outhit Newtown, 6-5.
Jack Cangelosi went the distance on the mound, striking out seven.
