WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Taconic Golf Club remained a tough test for the players on the PGA Junior Series on Wednesday.

With rain early, and a steady westerly wind throughout most of the round, the course showed its teeth in the second round of the second annual event..

In the boys 15-18 division, Nate Menon, 16, of Wyomissing, Pa., fired his second consecutive one-under par 70 for a two-day total of two-under par, 140.  Menon’s round today included two birdies, and only one bogey. He holds six-shot lead over Davis Chatfield, 16, of Attleboro, Mass., who fired an even par, 71, on the day.

“The course conditions were much harder today mainly due to the steady wind throughout the round, Menon said. "The wind made it incredibly hard to keep the ball in the fairway which is a must on this course, but for the most part I was able to keep it in the fairway

“Heading into the final round, my plan is to keep playing the way I have been.  I feel confident that if I play as well as I did today, I will be able to hold off the rest of the field.”

In the girls division, Maya Walton, 17, of Austin, Texas, remains at the top of the leaderboard after her round of one-under par, 70 on the day. Walton persevered through tough conditions to extend her lead to 11 shots over Lindsay May, 15, of Auburn, Texas, who shot five-over par, 76, on the day and 12-over par, 154 for the tournament.  Walton’s round today included a shot on the par 4, 15th hole which hit off the flagstick and led to one of her two birdies on the day.

“Today, my game was a lot more consistent in general, Walton said. "I hit most of the fairways, as well as most of the greens in regulation which took some stress off my short game as a whole.  I was leaving myself in good spots to make birdie although I didn’t always make the putt.  I am confident in the way I have been playing, and am excited to play the course again tomorrow."

In the Boy’s 12-14 division, Trevor Lopez, 13, of Winchester, Mass., holds a six shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round over Benjamin Gilooly, 14, of Williamstown.

Gilooly's Mount Greylock teammate, Matt Wiseman, rebounded from an 89 on Tuesday to card an 82 on Wednesday and move up the leaderboard. A third Mountie, Kyle Alvarez, shaved six strokes off his Day 1 score.

The tournament concludes on Thursday.
