WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School District’s SEE Fund will host a student/faculty Quiz Bowl and telethon at the school on Thursday, March 12.

The event will be broadcast live from 6:30-8 p.m. on channel 16 (WilliNet) in Williamstown and then again in Lanesborough as soon as possible.

This event is meant to highlight students and student learning, and to serve as a fundraiser for educational initiatives at the school. The Quiz Bowl is a game show in the tradition of the annual “As Schools Match Wits” competition, with students squaring off on questions in the categories of humanities, science & math, sports & health, and pop culture. The telethon will take place simultaneously with the goal of raising $5,000 to fund grants for programs at Mount Greylock that are not covered by the regular school budget. All of this year’s gifts will be designated for immediate use during the 2015-16 academic year.

All members of the Mount Greylock School community (faculty, staff, students, parents, and friends) are eligible to apply for SEE Fund grants. The deadline this year is April 15 and the application and eligibility guidelines are available online at berkshiretaconic.org.

The SEE (Sustaining Educational Excellence) Fund was established in 1996 as the first nonprofit educational endowment in Berkshire County. It is managed by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation and governed by a volunteer board of students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends of the Mount Greylock Regional School. The Fund has distributed nearly $200,000 in small grants to provide extra educational opportunities for students and teachers. Projects that have received funding recently include environmental field trips, new science lab equipment, a teen health reference library, fitness basics, a choral festival, a bullying awareness and prevention program, and classroom computing resources.
