LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The FYE music store in the Berkshire Mall is planning to close.
The store is currently liquidating its stock with prices 40 to 80 percent off. A FYE location in Berkshire Crossing in Pittsfield will remain open closed last year.
The 30-year-old music and entertainment retailer had been struggling for years. Parent company Trans World Entertainment reported a net loss of $4.5 million for the third quarter of 2014 and a 9 percent decrease in sales over the same time last year.
Transworld is headquartered in Albany, N.Y., where it began as Record Town in the 1970s. It has closed hundreds of outlets over the last decade. It began using the "f.y.e." (for your entertainment) branding for all its music stores in 2001.
FYE is the second national brand store to close in the mall; the longtime RadioShack outlet off the Food Court also will close. RadioShack is expected to close some 600 stores between 2014 and 2016.
