Adams Scholars pose at McCann Technical School. The scholarships pay for tuition at any state public higher education school.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Twenty-eight McCann Technical School seniors were awarded scholarships for great achievement on the MCAS test.

Principal Justin Kratz said the group of students received the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. This award is given to students who have achieved advanced on at least one of the test sections and proficient scores on the rest.

"I'm very proud of our John and Abigail Adams scholars," Kratz said. "These students have worked exceptionally hard to maintain their standing within their class and have performed at high levels on their MCAS tests."

The scholarship entitles recipients to four years of free tuition at a Massachusetts public college.

Kratz said all the students rank in the top 25 percent in their class, are very focused and receive a tremendous amount of preparation from the faculty.

"We're very lucky at McCann to have dedicated and talented faculty members and a hard-working, focused student body," he said. "Our entire faculty works hard at preparing students for the MCAS test and, even though they are subject-specific tests (English, math, and science), all of our faculty from every discipline and vocational area incorporate pieces of MCAS preparation into their courses to help students to perform well on this test."

Kratz said McCann students have historically received high scores on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests.

"Over the last several years 25 to 30 percent of our senior classes have earned this award," he said. "We have been a high-achieving MCAS school for quite a few years now, and we're very proud of all our student's performance on the test."

This year Drew Burdick, Daniel Burdick III, Haley Carson, Mathew Christiana, Andrew Corsi, Nathan Cote, Elizabeth Culpepper, Sean Davis, Brodie Digennaro, Max Filion, Zachary Fletcher, Amber Foster, Dylan Gigliotti, Laura Heritage, Marcus Hillard, Natalie Howe, Cody Laframboise, Jonathan Leal, Adam LeClair, Skiler Lillie, Zoe Loughman, Tiana Mack, Matthew Massari, Joshua McAdoo, Laura Netti, Brett Pecor, Jesilyn Rolnick, and Jacquelyn Schneider received the scholarship.

The scholarship is available to all Massachusetts public high school students.
