Annual Pow Wow Returns to Bowe Field in Adams

ADAMS, Mass. — The 9th annual Rock, Rattle & Drum Pow Wow commences Saturday at Bowe Field.

This year's theme is "Living in Harmony, Fulfilling Our Destiny" and it will be packed with music, music, dance, education, arts, food and crafts representing and celebrating Native American culture.

Everyone is welcome to join in on the pow wow, which is used for Native American people to meet to celebrate, and renew their strength through revitalizing their rich culture and identity.

The event will feature storytellers along with traditional dances and drumming.

Many performers and events will return to this year, including Arvel Bird, a Nammy Award-winning violinist, flute player, and storyteller, and Danza Azteca, an Aztec dance group.

Attendees may be invited to join the traditional dancing, including a candy dance for the children. American Indian storytellers will share old native stories with the young and young at heart. Vendors will sell native-made arts and crafts such as beadwork, quill work and silver. Traditional foods such as Indian fry bread, Indian corn soup and buffalo will be available for purchase.

The pow wow runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Grand Entry will be at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday and will include an honoring of veterans. There will also be a signing of a Charter of Compassion by local town officials.

The event takes place rain or shine. One-day ticket prices for adults is $8;  seniors (65 and older) and youth (ages 11-17) are $5, and children younger than 10 are free.
