Letter Carriers Food Drive Set For May 10| 01:00PM / Monday, May 05, 2014 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass — Local branch #286 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and Postal Workers, in conjunction with Berkshire United Way, Berkshire Youth United and Berkshire Community Action Council, will be running a Food Drive on Saturday, May 10.
Letter carriers will be collecting non-perishable food items for distribution to more than 25 local food pantries and feeding programs. Non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice are welcome and appreciated. Please do not include glass or perishable items.
Residents should place their food donation in bags or boxes by their mailbox on Saturday, May 10 The letter carriers in Adams, Becket, Dalton, Great Barrington, Hinsdale, Housatonic, Lanesboro, Lee, Lenox, North Adams, Pittsfield, parts of Richmond, Sheffield, and Williamstown will be collecting the donations and bringing them to their respective loading docks for sorting and packing. At the Pittsfield Post Office, volunteers from Berkshire United Way, Berkshire Community Action Council, and Taconic High School students from the Berkshire Youth United (BYU) program will distribute the food to 19 designated drop-off and pick-up food banks.
These 19 recipient pantries and feeding programs are used every day by families and individuals in need, as well as shelters for the homeless. More than 2,000 individuals are supported weekly by these food banks. For more information, contact Mike Callahan at Pittsfield Post Office 413-442-6961.
