PITTSFIELD, Mass. - WAM Theatre is seeking actors for "Fresh Takes," a series of five play readings that will take place on select Sundays between April and September.
The series seeks to give a stage to new and reimagined works that tell women’s stories. The readings will feature local professional actors and directors and will be held in the gallery at No. Six Depot Roastery and Cafe at 6 Depot St. in West Stockbridge.
WAM invites interested theater artists to submit a resume and headshot to kelly@wamtheatre.com by March 14 with "Submission: Fresh Takes" in the subject line. Artists should also include the readings for which they are available in the body of the email.
Participation in the reading series is voluntary. Equity actors are invited to perform via Equity waiver. Each reading will rehearse on the Saturday prior to the performance. Actors must be available for both the rehearsal and reading date.
The series consists of "Blue Stockings" by Jessica Swale (April 13 at 3 p.m.), "Measure for Measure" by William Shakespeare (May 18 at 3 p.m.), "How the World Began" by Catherine Trieschmann (June 22 at 3:00 p.m.), "Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England" by Madeleine George (Aug. 17 at 3 p.m.), and "Waxworks" by Trina Davies (Sept. 21 at 3 p.m.). The casting breakdown and more can be found at http://www.WAMTheatre.com/fresh-takes/fresh-takes-casting-breakdown/.
WAM (Women’s Action Movement) Theatre was co-founded in 2010 by Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven. Inspired by the book “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide” by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, WAM Theatre’s philanthropic mission is two-fold: first, to create theatrical events for everyone, with a focus on women theater artists and/or stories of women and girls; and second, to donate a portion of the proceeds from those events to organizations that benefit women and girls. Since 2010, WAM Theatre has donated more than $10,500 to its beneficiaries. For more information, see www.WAMTheatre.com.
