PITTSFIELD, Mass. - WGBY’s news magazine is taking to the road and setting up shop at Hancock Shaker Village to tape a series of segments for "Connecting Point" on Wednesday, March 5.
"Connecting Point" is now in its fourth season on western New England’s Public Television station, WGBY, airing Monday, Thursday and Friday nights at 7:30 p.m.
Hosts Aliz Koletas and Jim Madigan will be reaching out to guests from across Berkshire County for a special series of stories to air over the next several weeks on the program.
First, while the alternative currency bitcoin has been making headlines recently, including a recent story on "Connecting Point," Berkshire County residents have been trading in a currency of their own, Berkshares, for several years. Aliz will connect with some of its advocates.
Next, on the environmental front, Great Barrington has taken the bold step of declaring a ban on plastic bags as of March 1.  The show will take a look at how that ordinance is being implemented and how it is being received.
Also, the state of Massachusetts led by Gov. Patrick has taken a leading role in the implementation of solar energy statewide, and "Connecting Point" will examine how that initiative is happening across Berkshire County.
Lastly, WGBY Public Affairs director Jim Madigan will be speaking with Lesley Herzberg, curator at Hancock Shaker Village, and Megan Whilden, Pittsfield's director of Cultural Development, and discussing tourism, culture and the creative economy in Berkshire County. Madigan will also be discussing the state of the Berkshires with an regional commentator.
WGBY is a community-supported public broadcasting organization, connects the people of western New England to events, ideas and each other through national PBS programming and locally produced series and specials.
