11:21AM / Friday, February 28, 2014
Print | Email

Four non-profit community organizations have partnered to offer free tax preparation services to Berkshire County households with income less than $52,000.
Some of these households may also qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit of up to $6,044.
With funding from the Berkshire United Way, the Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity, Berkshire Community Action Council and CHP have joined forces to provide this service, called VITA Tax. VITA is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program by IRS trained and certified volunteers.
Berkshire County residents meeting the household income requirement may call 413-881-5500 to schedule appointments in Pittsfield, Lee or Great Barrington. Residents can also email freetaxes@berkshirehabitat.org. Residents are encouraged to call as soon as possible to ensure an appointment.
For those who electronically file on their own, please use this website: http://myfreetaxes.com/upstreetfreetax. If household income is less than $58,000, state and federal filing will be free. Residents will need a valid email address to file online.
