James is a terrier/American pit bull mix available for adoption at Berkshire Humane Society.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Humane Society, in an effort to promote responsible ownership of pit bull dogs and showcase their unique qualities, will continue Love-A-Bull Month throughout the month.

Several openings are still available for BHS's low-cost spaying and neutering event for pit bull dogs in North County. To participate, owners of pit bull dogs will need to register by coming to BHS, completing an application anding pay a $50 fee. Owners will then schedule an appointment with the two participating veterinarians, Greylock Animal Hospital and North County Veterinary Clinic, between now and April 31.

After the dog is spayed or neutered, BHS will provide a $25 rebate to the owner. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The fee is nonrefundable and includes a rabies vaccination. This event is supported by a grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  For more information, contact BHS kennel staff at 413-447-7878, ext. 26.

Additionally, during the month of February, BHS will be offering a free training session for any pit bull adopted from them. In addition to this training opportunity, the adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, micro-chipping and de-worming.  Stop by the shelter or visit its website, www.berkshirehumane.org, to see pit bull dogs who are looking for their forever homes.
