WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — In their first five games since the holiday break, the Williams College men's ice hockey team (8-2-2/6-0-2) NESCAC has gone 3-2 and the Ephs have dropped to 12th nationally in both the D3Hockey and USCHO.com polls.
Both polls rank the top 15 teams in NCAA Division III. Adrian College (Mich.), the last remaining undefeated team in Division III play (13-0-2), tops both polls. Williams is the lone NESCAC team appearing in the top 15 in either poll.
Both losses since the break by the Ephs have been by one goal and the most recent loss was an overtime loss on the road to Johnson and Wales in OT, 3-2 on Saturday. The Ephs lost their first contest out of the holiday season to Hobart by the same 3-2 score.
In between the two losses the Ephs claimed a 4-3 win over Hamilton at Plattsburgh State, defeated Trinity in Fenway Park and edged Wesleyan at home. So far four of the five games have been played off campus.
Williams, which sits in first place in NESCAC, will have a break this coming weekend from NESCAC play as they will host Manhattanville on Friday at 7 p.m. and Plattsburgh State also at home on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The next NESCAC contests for the Ephs will be in Maine Jan. 24, when they play at Colby in Waterville and then on the 25th when they take on Bowdoin in Brunswick.
Of their final 12 regular season contests, the Ephs will play seven at home and five will be NESCAC contests, as will all five of the away contests.
