PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will hold one of its informational "Eggs & Issues" breakfast at Zucchini's Restaurant at 1331 North St. on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 8 to 9:30.

The event is sponsored by United Personnel and will feature state Rep. Steven M. Walsh, D-Lynn, House chairman of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, and state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier, D-Pittsfield, as the guest speakers.

Walsh is the architect of the Health Care Quality Improvement and Cost Reduction Act of 2012 and will be discussing the bill's intent and impact. He will welcome feedback from the community on this legislation.

While crafting the new law, Walsh and members of the Health Care Financing Committee traveled to hospitals and health centers throughout the state, spoke with hundreds of families to learn about their experiences navigating the health care system, and studied the affect of unmet health-care needs on businesses. The final bill aims to reduce costs and incentivize preventative care to avoid expensive emergencies.

"It's important for legislators to hear from communities all across Massachusetts to learn more about the impact of last year's Health Care Cost Reduction legislation," said Farley-Bouvier, who also sits on the Health Care Financing Committee. "This event will be a great opportunity for those 'in the trenches' to let a key member of the Legislature know what measures do and don't work for businesses in the Berkshires."

The Eggs & Issues series was developed to provide member businesses with a forum to learn more about and participate in conversations regarding issues and initiatives happening in their area from local and regional experts and officials.

Light breakfast is offered as part of the program. The cost is $10 for Berkshire Chamber members and $15 for non-members.
