Bay State Games Return To County FridayBy Andy McKeever, iBerkshires Staff 07:15PM / Thursday, February 09, 2012 | |
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Bay State Winter Games kicks off bright and early Friday morning.
The first round of figure skating will begin at 7:30 a.m. to start the three-day competition that brings figure skating, alpine skiing and ice hockey to the Northern Berkshires.
Last year, the games expanded to include other nearby states as the Olympic-style competition continues to grow. Since the Bay State Winter Games' inception in 1985, the Berkshires have played host to all the events.
The competition brings an estimated $1.5 million, Williamstown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Judy Giamborino said last year.
The games are broken into three separate competitions. There is figure skating at Williams College's Lansing Chapman Rink, alpine skiing at Bousquet in Pittsfield and ice hockey at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink in North Adams.
The headlining performance is the skate show at 7:45 on Saturday night and will feature 24 championship acts.
The hockey games start Friday night in North Adams, figure skating continues throughout the weekend in Williamstown and skiing will take place on Saturday. Sunday will feature the championship rounds of figure skating and hockey. A full schedule is available below.
