WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Fifteen students from Mount Greylock Regional School District have been chosen to participate in the Massachusetts Music Educators' Western District Festivals.

The highly competitive auditions for high school and middle school students were held in November and December 2011, respectively. The Massachusetts Western District Senior High Festival will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, and the Junior High Festival will be on March 17, both at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

At the Senior High Festival, Miranda Bucky, Nathan Majumder and Caleb Raymond will perform with the band, Sophia Santore and Blake Sherman with the chorus and Schuyler Fohrhaltz-Burbank and Taylor Fohrhaltz-Burbank with the orchestra. In addition, Nathan Majumder, Sophia Santore and Taylor Fohrhaltz-Burbank earned All-State recommendations, which only the highest scoring students receive.

At the Junior High Festival, Lilly Crolius, Andrew Whitaker and Aaron Kleiner will perform with the band, and Matthew Kleiner, Niku Darafshi, Mercer Greenwald, Anya Sheldon and Molly Wilson will perform with the orchestra.

"Participating in the festivals will give Mount Greylock students an opportunity to play with their peers from across the western part of the state, students who have worked just as hard to earn this honor," said Ouisa Fohrhaltz, the orchestra director. "This is an incredible chance for our students to be inspired by talented musicians from other communities."
