North Adams Regional Hospital went smoke-free Monday — so did all its sister sites, from Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Family Practice to the Women's Exchange. No ashtrays, no smoking: No butts about it. |
Yuck!
Today's blue skies will give way to clouds and snow tonight. But be prepared for tomorrow morning, when the white stuff will get messy as freezing rain and sleet move through the region. The morning commute will be slippery — drive careful! |

MCLA Hosts Engineering Workshop for Teachers - January 20, 2008
NORTH ADAMS – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will host an interactive and hands-on introductory workshop for teachers, "Everyone Engineers!" on Monday, Jan. 28, 3:30 to 6 p.m.
The workshop is open to all public school elementary teachers who are new to "Engineering is Elementary" workshops and who would like to develop their own understandings of engineering and technology, and how to integrate it into their already full curriculum. The cost is $25.
Participants will explore engineering activities that tie into life science with "Thinking inside the Box: Designing Plant Packages" and receive a teacher guide and a certificate of attendance, as well as an optional postimplementation workshop with additional unit teacher guide.
Part of the "Engineering is Elementary" program, this workshop meets the Massachusetts Science and Engineering/Technology Standards: New Curriculum Support for New Challenges for elementary Grades 1 through 5.
This workshop is supported in part by Cisco Systems and is provided in collaboration with the Museum of Science, Boston, and the Berkshire (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Pipeline. The STEM Pipeline Fund was established through state economic stimulus legislation, and seeks to improve teacher preparation in science, technology, engineering and mathematic subjects, and to increase the student interest in, preparation for and success in STEM careers. For more information, contact STEM coordinator Lisa Provencher at lisa.provencher@mcla.edu or 413-662-5525. Once registered, participants will receive parking and room location information.
