Kenneth B. Meyer, 91

August 01, 2018

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kenneth Baggott Meyer, 91, formerly of Williamstown, Mass., died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at CareOne in Wilmington, Ma.

He was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., on November 11, 1926, the son of the late Grover and Estelle (Baggott) Meyer. Ken attended schools in Chappaqua, N.Y., and went on to attend Middlebury College and graduated from RPI with a degree in chemical engineering.

He was a veteran of the US Navy. In his early years, Ken worked for National Lead in Brooklyn and Ohio. He was then employed for many years as a chemical engineer for Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. During his career, he obtained two patents for batteries.

He was a volunteer for English As A Second Language (ESL) at Williams College, and also volunteered at the information booth in Williamstown. He was a devoted, hard-working, humble man, who lived to spend time with his family. He loved children, music, and dogs, who always made him laugh, and he discovered later in life an appetite for travel. He gratefully accepted any opportunity for a new adventure, big or small, and devoured such experiences to the marrow. He was much loved and admired, and all would agree that he made a difference in the world.

He was the widower of Margaret-Ann “Margo” (Morrow) Meyer, whom he married on October 4, 1952. She died on April 11, 1996.

Survivors include his daughters, Jill Basta and her husband, Sal, of Andover, Mass., and Nancy Hesselton and her husband, Steve, of Oxford, Mass.; sons Kenneth R. Meyer and his wife, Cynthia, of Chester, N.J., and Peter Morrow Meyer and his wife, Kate, of Bristol, Vt.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Jessica Basta and their boys Jonah and Theo, Sam Basta and his fiancé Casey Fleming, Maggie Hesselton and her partner James Simonelli, Tim and Julia Hesselton, Abby Hesselton, Gregory, Ken, and Max Meyer, Emma Meyer and her fiancé Tyler Swertfager, and Will and Charlie Meyer; and his sister Edith Campbell of Indianapolis.

Funeral notice: A funeral service to celebrate the life of Kenneth Meyer will take place on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 35 Park St., Williamstown, MA 01267.
