WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kelly Carney Gallagher, 27, of Williamstown passed away on April 22, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his family, close friends and beloved stuffed animal, P-head.
Kelly is survived by his mother, Deborah Carney Gallagher of Williamstown; father, Ronald “Roddie” Gallagher of North Adams; sister Casey Carney Gallagher, brother-in-law Seth Hudson Hamblin; nephew Theodore Rian Hamblin of Providence, R.I.; brother Devin Carney Gallagher of Los Angeles, Calif.; dedicated caregivers, Steve “Hat Head” Travis and Sally “Ess Girl” Chin of Williamstown and Kaitlyn “Kate” Wheeler of North Adams; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.
We would also like to recognize the amazing nurses and doctors and staff at Berkshire Medical Center who gave incredible care, laughter and dignity to Kelly over the past four weeks.
Kelly attended Williamstown Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown. He most recently attended the day programs at United Cerebral Palsy and BFAIR. He was a talented artist and showed his work in regional art galleries and New York City with the help of CATA, Community Access to the Arts and his best agent, his father “Toastah.”
Carly Simon was the greatest love of Kelly’s life outside of his family. Kelly once awoke from a five-hour surgery singing, “I know nothing stays the same,” from her hit song “Coming Around Again.” Kelly could spend hours on the weekend listening to NPR. His favorite programs were Car Talk and Prairie Home Companion. He loved watching Barney and QVC. Kelly loved going for rides in the car; he loved going to the “stores” for “shoes and coats” with his mother, “bestest,” as well as going to tag sales with his father. Kelly also loved family vacations at the “beach.”
Kelly touched every person that he met and gave each of them a special nickname or had a personal catchphrase that he would use to engage them in conversation and laughter. His smile always lit up the room and he had a sparkle in his eye that melted your heart and drew you in to his world.
Funeral notice: Kelly’s memorial service will be held at The First Congregational Church at 906 Main Street in Williamstown on May 19, 2018 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Mntagna Home for Funerals, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247 to United Cerebral Palsy of Berkshire County at 208 West Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 or Berkshire Family & Individual Resources at 771 South Church Street, North Adams, MA 01247.
