WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Beatrice Irene (Spofford) Lancto, 86, of Williamstown, Mass., died on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
She was born in Worcester, Mass., on September 2, 1931, a daughter of the late Roy and Helena (Quackenbush) Spofford. Mrs. Lancto was a graduate of Bennington High School. In her early years, she worked at Polygraphic North Bennington Inc., where she was employed until 1957. She later worked at Excelsior Processing as a customer service representative for many years.
Mrs. Lancto was a former communicant of Sts. Patrick & Raphael’s Parish in Williamstown. She loved crossword puzzles, the New York Yankees, and was very active in political activities and was a proud Democrat.
Mrs. Lancto was the widow of John Frederick Lancto, whom she married on April 12, 1958. He died on August 25, 1967.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa McLain and her husband Ralph of Williamstown; a son, Gregory J. Lancto of Williamstown; three grandchildren, John Frederick Lancto II, Stephanie Claire Lancto, and Jenna Elizabeth McLain; five great-grandchildren; a brother, James A. Spofford; and two sisters-in-law, Susan Denzel and Joan Spofford.
She was predeceased by her brother, Avery Spofford.
Funeral notice: A funeral service to celebrate the life of Beatrice Lancto will take place on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Donations in her memory can be made to St. Patrick Food Pantry.
