Mount Greylock District Plans 32 New School-Choice Slots for Fall

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School District plans to open up 32 new school choice slots between its three schools for the 2022-23 academic year, the School Committee learned last week.   Superintendent Jason McCandless had previously announced a plan to open up 15 new slots at Lanesborough Elementary School to help offset increased use of the district's school choice reserve in fiscal year 2023 spending plan.   At Thursday's monthly School Committee meeting, McCandless provided more detail of what he has characterized as a return to past practice after a couple of years without significant School Choice opportunities in the district due to the

Williamstown's Boyd 20th in Age Group at Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass. -- Williamstown's Stephanie Boyd placed 20th in her age group on Monday in the 126th running of the Boston Marathon.   Boyd covered the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 37 minutes, 40 seconds, maintaining a pace of 8:18 per mile to finished 20th in the women's 60-64 division.   The women's 60-64 age group had 450 finishers.   A pair of runners from Kenya won the event, which celebrated its return to the Patriots Day holiday for the first time since 2019.   Evans Chebet took the men's title in a time of 2:06:51. Earth Day Celebration in Merchants Park

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Earth Day celebration this spring will take place at Merchants Parks at 3:30 the afternoon of April 22, 2022.     This will be the fifty-second commemoration of Earth Day which began in 1970.    This Earth Day is sponsored by Climate Advocates Bennington, the MAUHS group Climate Change Initiative and Better Bennington Corporation.  The celebration is open to the public and will have speakers, music, and skits with audience participation.   According to a press release, Earth Day in the US, began after several major ecological disasters.  In January of 1969 An oil rig leaked millions of gallons of oil on the coast of Santa

Williamstown Spring Water Main Flushing Notice

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Water Department will be flushing water mains beginning Monday, May 9, through Thursday, May 19, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and midnight, weather permitting.    Flushing will not be done on Friday evenings or weekends.   Customers may experience some cloudy water and lower than normal pressure.   This is a semi-annual procedure to remove any sediment in the mains and check the operation of all hydrants.   Any questions regarding this matter to call the business office at 458-3383

Cost Overruns Seen in Mount Greylock Outbuilding

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock School Committee on Thursday agreed to spend more than $100,000 in additional funds to get an outdoor equipment storage facility online.   The new structure at the middle/high school will be used to protect equipment needed to maintain the fields at the school.   The district had hoped to complete the project for less than $200,000, but complications in the project and increased costs during the course of the project necessitated bringing that figure up to $314,000, Business Administrator Joe Bergeron told the committee.   Bergeron sought and approved the committee's blessing to use up to $134,000 more from the capital gift

Williams Softball Team Wins Weekend Series

Williamstown Community Preschool Installs New Signage

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Preschool began sprucing up its new home by hiring local sign maker Lindsay Neathawk, owner of Neathawk Signs and Design, to create a 3D sign for the business.

Neathawk installed the sign late Monday afternoon that features multicolored hand prints from the children as the leaves of a tree poking out of the top. Underneath the name and address "a place to grow" is written. The children's hand prints were taken at the school and Neathawk then scanned them into her design programs to create the sign.
