Clark Art Presents Film Viewing and Discussion

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Thursday, April 25 at 6 pm, the Clark Art Institute presents an exclusive event with Warner Friedman, a prominent artist in the Berkshires for over fifty years.    After screening the 2023 short documentary directed by Diane Crespo, "Warner Friedman: A Postmodern Journey" (Run time: 21 minutes), the artist and the filmmaker join in a conversation and Q&A session. The event takes place in the Clark's auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center.   According to a press release:   Renowned as a contemporary landscape painter, Friedman is celebrated for his vibrant scenes framed by fences, gates, windows, and doors.

Williamstown Select Board Talks Dog Park, Short-Term Rentals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board could be going back to the drawing board on a proposal to designate an area of the Spruces Park for off-leash dogs.   At last week's meeting, Andrew Hogeland gave his colleagues an update on a topic that has been discussed at length by the board this year.   Hogeland said he had consulted with other stakeholders in the park, specifically the Hoosic River Watershed Association, Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation and town Conservation Commission.   "I figured they would have some thoughts about what happens in that territory," Hogeland said. Baseball in the Berkshires Exhibit Highlights Black, Women's Teams

Summer Street Residents Make Case to Williamstown Planning Board

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Neighbors of a proposed subdivision off Summer Street last week asked the Planning Board to take a critical look at the project, which the residents say is out of scale to the neighborhood.   Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity was at Town Hall last Tuesday to present to the planners a preliminary plan to build five houses on a 1.75 acre lot currently owned by town's Affordable Housing Trust.   The subdivision includes the construction of a road from Summer Street onto the property to provide access to five new building lots of about a quarter-acre apiece.   Several residents addressed the board from the floor of the meeting to share their

Remains of Woman Missing Since March Found in NYS

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The remains of a woman reported missing in March, Fae Morgana Barbone, have been found off the Taconic Crest Trail in New York State.   Barbone, 40, of Plymouth County, was reported missing just days before her car was found on March 19 at the Mount Berlin trailhead; it had been there for at least a week. Numerous searches were made on the Williamstown and New York sides of the trail by law enforcement — Williamstown's K-9 and drone were utilized — and volunteers including Berkshire Mountain Search & Rescue    The Williamstown Police Department posted the news shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday on the department's Facebook

Local Runners Compete at Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass. -- Laura Stephen of Great Barrington finished 26th in the women's 60-64 age group at Monday's Boston Marathon, the top Berkshire County finisher in their division at the 128th running of the event.   Stephen crossed the finish line in 3 hours, 42 minutes, 52 seconds, 12,633rd in the overall field of more than 30,000 runners who made the trek from Hopkinton to Copley Square in Boston.   More than a dozen Berkshire County residents are listed among the finishers on the Boston Athletic Association website.   The fastest of that group was Dalton's Alex White, who finished in 2:38:34 to place 358th overall and 291st among men aged 18 to 39.   The

Edgerton Taking Part-Time Role at Mount Greylock
