Lola Greene Legacy Scholarship

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Applications are now being accepted for the Lola Greene Legacy Scholarship.     A one-time grant of $250-$500 will be awarded to a graduating high school senior from Berkshire County who is planning to continue to study Latin and/or the Classics in college. The scholarship will be awarded based on scholastic achievement with emphasis on Latin study and related activities, future plans to continue Latin and Classics studies, and demonstrated leadership and good moral character.   Lola Greene taught at Mt. Williamstown Rotary Club Participates in Day of Service

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Rotary Club of Williamstown, along with other clubs in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut, participated in Rotary Day of Service on April 9.   In Williamstown, members collected food for the Easter distribution by the Williamstown Food Pantry.   Working from a list supplied by the food pantry we donated hams, potatoes, and other items.  The night before, members gathered to fill bags with candy and small toys for area children.     The club meets weekly for lunch on Tuesdays.     For information on other club activities, contact president Armando Dicianno at armando@dicianno.org

Questions Sought for Williamstown Candidate Forums

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Residents are encouraged to submit questions for a pair of candidate forums in Williamstown on Tuesday.   The Williamstown chapter of the League of Women Voters is hosting the forums for candidates running for two seats on the Select Board and one seat on the Planning Board. League member Jennifer Howlett will be the moderator.   The forums will be held starting at 4 p.m. at Town Hall and will be taped by the town's community access television station, Willinet. The public is invited to attend in person.    Candidates for the Planning Board will appear from 4-6 p.m., followed immediately by the candidates for the Select Board.

Clark Art Artist Talk and Book Launch With Anne Thompson

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Artist Anne Thompson will visit the Clark Art Institute on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 pm to discuss her recent exhibition, "Trail Signs," in which she installed forty-eight unique prints on the Clark's wayfinding kiosks over the course of the winter.   Thompson will discuss her artistic and curatorial practice in conversation with the Clark's Robert Weisenberger, associate curator of contemporary projects. Bennington Museum Gets $46K Federal Grant for New Windows

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Bennington Museum has joined the ranks of the 245 organizations across the country that are receiving new grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities totaling $33.17 million.   Included in those awards was $52,173 for the state of Vermont, $46,173 of which was awarded to Bennington Museum for the purchase and installation of energy-saving windows for the historic building.   NEH funds were divided into 13 categories, the largest of which ($11 million worth) was reserved for 23 institutions taking part in the infrastructure and capacity building challenge — a category intended to leverage matching funds to support the literal building blocks

Sts. Patrick & Raphael Parish Hosting Synod Listening Sessions

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Parish of Sts. Patrick & Raphael is seeking input from interested community members on their spiritual reflections.    The Rev. John P. McDonagh said the parish has already held Synod Consultation Sessions with the Parish Council, parents participating in Generations of Faith Formation program, and parishioners, as well as the Harper Center and Williamstown Commons.   He added that "the parish is also interested in hearing what the Holy Spirit is telling people in the community."   Three open sessions have been scheduled, including one earlier Thursday at the parish center. Williamstown Fire District Honing FY23 Budget Proposal

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The committee that oversees the Fire District last week reviewed a fiscal 2023 budget that amounts to a 3.14 percent increase over the current year.   But the $498,000 spending plan is just 0.4 percent higher than the operating budget the annual district meeting approved two years ago.   Last spring, the Prudential Committee put forward a budget that reflected a 2.7 percent decrease from FY21 to FY22. Williamstown Community Preschool Installs New Signage

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Preschool began sprucing up its new home by hiring local sign maker Lindsay Neathawk, owner of Neathawk Signs and Design, to create a 3D sign for the business.

Neathawk installed the sign late Monday afternoon that features multicolored hand prints from the children as the leaves of a tree poking out of the top. Underneath the name and address "a place to grow" is written. The children's hand prints were taken at the school and Neathawk then scanned them into her design programs to create the sign.
