 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Increasingly, residents and town officials are talking about the problems with a town meeting form of government, and one of the issues raised is the length of the meeting and how they create an advantage for those who can attend a late meeting on a Tuesday night. This Tuesday's meeting likely could add fuel to that fire. Residents will meet on May 17 at 7 p.m. at Williamstown Elementary School to tackle a 49-article meeting warrant that includes 10 bylaw amendments put forth by the town's Planning Board.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College men's tennis team Sunday defeated Bowdoin, 5-1, to advance to the quarter-finals of the NCAA Division III tournament. Wins at number one and number two doubles gave the Williams (15-3) a 2-1 lead over Bowdoin (16-6) heading into singles play. Williams' third point came at No. 2 singles where Matt Kandel downed Reid Staples 6-2, 6-3. Karan Amin at third singles recorded Williams fourth match point when he prevailed over Evan Fortier 6-3, 6-4. With the advent of the Bird e-scooters in Pittsfield, available to anyone with a license, a few cents, and a cell phone, I hope that Berkshire Medical Center's emergency room is ready for the traumatic brain injuries coming down the road. The rentals don't include helmets and I've seen plenty of people having a blast — laughing and zipping along next to traffic — some riding double and no one wearing a helmet. They feel like a toy but they aren't toys: E-scooters are one of the most dangerous vehicles on the road with double the head injuries of cyclists — the injury rate is comparable to motorcycle riding. Williamstown residents attending town meeting on Tuesday, May 17, would be well-advised to watch the most recent "Talks on the Hill" at Williamstown Rural Lands, now playing on WilliNet. It is hard not to conclude that town voters should reject the Planning Board's proposed articles with respect to our Rural Residence districts. In a succinct 30-minute presentation on "Low-Density Development," Regina Fink and Annika Harrington provide viewers with a deep understanding of the complexities of rural development and housing, delivered with a clarity that has been lacking from the Planning Board itself.

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williams College men's tennis team Saturday defeated the Nichols College Bison, 5-0, to advance to Sunday's third round of the NCAA Division III championship. Williams will play either Washington & Lee or Bowdoin, who met later on Saturday. Williams improved to 14-3 on the year while Nichols finishes their season at 17-6.  HOUSTON – On the final day of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Bay Oaks Country Club Williams College carded a team score of 13-over-par 301, and finished sixth. Under head coach Tomas Adalsteinsson Williams has finished sixth or higher in all six NCAA Tournaments they have competed in during his tenure. Catalin Yturralde, Joe Kim, and Malini Rudra were 3-over par today (75). Tianyi Zhuang led the way on the front nine for Williams, shooting an even par 36.  HOUSTON – It was a record breaking day for Williams women's golf today at Bay Oaks Country Club on Thursday. Coach Tomas Adalsteinsson's team finished its third round at the NCAA DIII Championships just 6 shots over par. "Today's round of 294 is our lowest round ever in the NCAA Championship, and the first and only round so far under 300," Adalsteinsson said.  HOUSTON – Day 2 of the 2022 NCAA DIII Women's Golf Championships had a promising start for Williams College as it was just three shots over par at the turn on Wednesday. Catalin Yturralde and Tianyi Zhuang both shot par on the front nine, while Malini Rudra was one over par, and both Olivia White and Jo Kin were both two over par.
