Clark Art Presents Concert by Umi Garrett

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 pm, the Clark Art Institute presents a concert by New York-based pianist Umi Garrett.    The event takes place in the Clark's auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center.   Garrett performs works by J. S. Bach, Franz Schubert, and Clara Schumann, and works composed by Williamstown resident and established classical composer Stephen Dankner. Garrett has recorded three solo albums and an upcoming debut chamber album of Ludwig van Beethoven's Five Sonatas for Piano and Cello with Emily Mantone. She is a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship at the Juilliard School, where she currently studies with Hung Kuan

County Residents Earn Bay State Games Skating Medals

Clark Art Fun on First Sunday: Tea (Party!)

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Sunday, Feb. 4 from 1–4 pm, the Clark Art Institute presents an afternoon of tea-based activities to suit all tastes, from decorating your own teacup to creating a tea blend (in a tea bag to take home).   Local tea shop Hearts Pace offers tastings. At 2 pm, Kathleen Morris, Marx Director of Collections and Exhibitions and Curator of Decorative Arts, leads a guided tour exploring the unique tea sets, spoons, and pots in the Clark’s expansive collection of decorative arts.   Free. Williamstown Fin Comm, Select Board Talk Need to Grow Tax Base

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Residents carry a higher tax burden than people in surrounding towns, and the problem will only get worse unless the town sees more development.   That was the message from the chair of the Finance Committee during her panel's joint meeting with the Select Board last week.   Melissa Cragg framed her remarks with a five-page memo she wrote outlining the current conditions for Williamstown taxpayers.   The main takeaways: Williamstown's property tax burden per residence ranks in the top third in the commonwealth and second out of 32 communities in Berkshire County. Roughley, Williams Men's Basketball Win at Bates

Williamstown Community Preservation Committee Advances Funding Requests

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee on Wednesday caught some breaks, cut some deals and found a way to fully or partially fund all of the applications the town received for Community Preservation Act funds for fiscal 2025.   Going into Wednesday, it looked like there was no way the committee would be able to satisfy all of its applicants. And, while one entity walked away with a little less than 60 percent of its original ask and another got 78 percent, the remaining three parties have a chance to receive exactly what they asked for when the committee forwards its funding recommendations to May's annual town meeting.   The first break the CPC

Clark Offers Free Gallery Tours for Parents and Infants

OTT Taxi Sets Up Livery Service in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — OTT Taxi has a new home.   But it will not be getting a new name, even though the owner says it is not actually a taxi service.   "We're running a livery service right now," John Lord said on Tuesday morning. Bay State Winter Games Returning to Berkshires
