Extremist Graffiti Found on Williams College Monument

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williams College on Monday reported that the school's Soldier's Monument on Main Street was defaced with apparent white supremacist graffiti.   President Maud Mandel sent an email to the college community reporting that a local resident reported to the school the presence of a Confederate flag and the painted word "Rebel" on the base of the Civil War statue, located outside the school's Griffin Hall.   "The Confederate flag and the word 'Rebel' are commonly used as symbols by white supremacists and other extremist factions," Mandel wrote. Williamstown DIRE Committee to Consider 'Purpose' Document

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town's diversity committee last week decided it needs a little more time to respond to an evolving purpose statement its members have been discussing with members of the Select Board. Williamstown Fire District Seeking Treasurer

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Fire District is in the market for a new treasurer after Cory Thurston announced at last week's Prudential Committee meeting that he plans to step down from the office.   Thurston has served in the capacity since he was elected in May 2019 to what, at the time, was the district's clerk/treasurer position.   A lot changed in the three years that followed. Kara Clark has been promoted to Branch Officer of the Lenox branch. Clark began with Adams Community Bank five years ago as a Customer Service Representative in Williamstown. Williamstown Fire District Sets Dec. 7 Vote on New Station

  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Five years after the fire district's voters approved purchasing a Main Street parcel for a new station, the Prudential Committee is ready to ask those voters to take the next step.   On Wednesday, the committee voted 5-0 to set a special district meeting for Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. when voters will be asked to approve borrowing to pay for construction of a new station.   The Prudential Committee accepted the recommendation of its Building Committee that now is the time to finalize the project so that shovels can go in the ground as early as next summer.   "I think it's worth repeating every time that it's a complicated project, and
