WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Planning Board this month reached a consensus in principle on three bylaw amendments it wants to start promoting this winter. But the board still needs advice from town counsel before moving forward on one of the three. A couple of the proposals have ties to a series of warrant articles that were referred back to the Planning Board by last year's annual town meeting. All three share a common objective: increasing housing opportunity. By a vote of 8-0, the combined panels appointed Williams College professor Allison Guess to the post vacated earlier this year by Dante Birch. Guess will serve on the Planning Board through May's annual town election, when the seat will be on the ballot for the remainder of the five-year seat Birch won in 2019. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Police arrested a man Thursday on nearly a dozen drug-related and firearms charges after an incident in South Williamstown. Williamstown Police on Friday said the department was notified by several callers about a "running vehicle located in the travel lane at the Five Corners intersection with an unresponsive operator at the wheel." An officer responding to the scene was able to awaken the operator, police said. After observing the individual and based on evidence in plain view inside the vehicle, the officer believed the subject was under the influence of narcotics.
